A. R. Rahman, born in Chennai in 1967, made his film debut with Mani Ratnam's Roja (1992) and went on to score Hindi films including Dil Se.. (1998), Taal (1999), Lagaan (2001) and Rang De Basanti (2006). His work for Slumdog Millionaire won two Academy Awards in 2009, for Best Original Score and Best Original Song.
His soundtracks have been reissued on vinyl in recent years, bringing 1990s and 2000s film music to the format for the first time for many listeners.
