Rahul Dev Burman (1939–1994), known to listeners as Pancham, was the son of composer S. D. Burman and one of the defining voices of Hindi film music from the 1960s into the 1990s. His scores include Amar Prem (1972), Sholay (1975) and 1942: A Love Story (1994), and his long partnerships with Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhosle produced many of the era's best-known songs.
On vinyl, his soundtracks are among the most collected Bollywood records — both as original pressings and as the reissues labels such as Saregama have brought back to the shelf.
